A unique combination of modern technology and traditional glass craft is depicted in the photograph of one of two gigantic dragons created by the Czech company LASVIT for a luxury hotel and casino on the Pacific island of Saipan. The dragon can change colours like a chameleon by means of programmable LED modules, its hollow structure is 32 metres long if unwound and weighs 20 tons. Its body has been made of 13,000 scales adorned with more than 2.5 million Swarovski crystals.

Hundreds of the company's experts worked on the dragon over three years. According to a scene from the Chinese mythology, the two dragons hang from the ceiling opposite each other, fighting over a glowing pearl. The Imperial Pacific Hotel casino is located in a seismically active area. For that reason, both dragons must be able to withstand a possible earthquake. That is why their structures have been designed to be both flexible and as light-weight as possible. This contract, worth CZK 250 million, is the largest project ever undertaken by this company based in Nový Bor.
